The Weekend Recap + Thoughts On Getting Old

This weekend was sprinkled with little moments that made me feel old.  The little sister I used to get ready for elementary school every morning left for college, and it is bothering me like it would bother a mom.  One of my very good friends called with the most exciting news...a little blessing is coming their way...and I couldn't be more happy for them. Then I realized, "Holiness, we are there.  My first close friend is having a baby. We are transitioning into the next phase!"  Very exciting things are happening and I'm so excited my family and friends are experiencing these new adventures, but for some reason it's making me feel old...

On Friday we went to Memaws for a going away party for Ms. Kailey.  Memaw's celebration dinners always make my heart happy, and my stomach 'Thanksgiving full'.  We spent the night giving Kailey advice I'm sure she soaked up like a sponge..right?!  We also spent time playing with the sweetest little bunnies, and planning our next vacation.
We also took a tour of Espresso machines at Williams Sonoma, during which we learned how extremely un-cultured we were. I told Donna not to judge us for our lack of knowledge, but I'm not sure she did anyway.  We were introduced to Nespresso machines in San Diego, and we absolutely loved them.  During our tour we fell in love again and adopted one for our home.  It needed a good home.  We spent the whole weekend trying out the fancy new machine, and drinking with our pinkies up.
Saturday night we went to see the closing night of The Little Shop of Horrors, put on by Zilker Hillside Theater.  The hillside looked like one big quilt.  Kids were running around everywhere and all of Austin's hippies were out in full glory.  The play was so good.  Kinda creepy, but very good.  We had a great time.
Sunday was a GSD day.  I feel like you need one day a week brave the grocery store, clean the house, do the laundry, and run errands.  I've been putting that day off for the last two weeks, so Sunday was Domestic Dooms Day.  I broke up the day with lunch with the grandy.
We ended the weekend with homemade fried chicken, cold cucumber salad, and pure excitement that we were able to pull off fried chicken as good as our grandparents did.  Again, our old souls got the best of us. The experiences that come with each additional year are wonderful and exciting.  They may take your life in a different direction but most of the time it is a good different. I think what feels a bit uneasy is the fear that I didn't get the most from the last "phase".  I want to enjoy each step; appreciate all the ups and downs and take in all the memories I can.  And when I see us drifting into the next phase, I can't help but get a little desperate, hoping I didn't miss anything.  Does that make any sense?

How was your weekend?

  1. It looks like you had such a fun weekend. How cool that you have an expresso machine now. OMG I would be wired 24/7. I agree with you about my feeling older now. My baby brother turned 21 (omg) a month ago and my friends are all pretty much married now and having kids. Gosh where does time ago?
