Summer Vittels: Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

I'm pretty sure my love for anything sweet is no longer a secret; the cat's out of the bag. That was strange to type...why would you put a cat in a bag?!

Anyways, my favorite summer treat is homemade ice cream.  Growing up I always loved when my dad would pull out our old ice cream maker, while mom whipped up the mix for homemade vanilla, or homemade peach...my favorite!  Nothing is sweeter than the sound of the growling ice cream maker on the back porch, whipping up that creamy treat.  A few Summer months into our marriage TV and I decided that we definitely needed to purchase our own ice cream maker and found this  Cuisinart jewel and pretty much wear it out each summer. It is the perfect size for us and super easy. If you are in the market for a ice cream maker, I give this model a thumbs up!

This week we made homemade Strawberry and Peach Ice Cream.  Enjoy...

1. Put strawberries into the food processor and pulse until rough/finely chopped (depending on your preference.  Put this in bowl and set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, combine milk, sugar, and salt use a hand mixer or whisk to mix until sugar is dissolved.  Then stir in heavy cream. vanilla, and strawberries (with all juices).  Cover and  refrigerate 1 to 2 hours, or overnight.

3. Turn on Ice cream maker and pour mix into the freezer bowl and let mix until thickened.  This machines take 20-25 minutes to do this.  Eat immediately or place in freezer if you desire a firmer ice cream.

Here are a few other recipes for your testing!
