Let's Have A First Date

A little birdy told me a few new faces might stop over the next few days so I thought what better time to share a little about myself.  Let's go on a first date, shall we?

Hi Loves, I'm Ashton (the blonde in the middle).

I'm the oldest of four; the first three being girls. My poor dad was surrounded by the ladies, so he did the only thing he could. He pretended we were boys, and we loved it.

My mom did a great job of balancing all the dirt with cooking, dance, and bows.  Lots of big bows.  And matching dresses. The Catherine Rebecca kind - goodness my face starts to cringe just thinking about it. The early 90's sure loved a twinkie in floral.

Luke came along when I was 15 and understood that the stork didn't drop off kids.  After that shocking realization wore off, we found out he was a boy.  "Gross, we don't do boys in our family", was my first thought. He peed on me the first time I held him and I swore he was going to ruin our lives.  But he didn't.  He just made mine.  I love that little man like he was my own.

I grew up in church and I'm very thankful for that.  My parents showed us the importance of faith.  And faith can change your life.

I went to college at a small Christian University and loved every minute of it. The town was small but we always seemed to find something to do. I learned how not to ever scheduled an 8 am class, the best food to cook in the microwave, and what 5 am homework sounds like...zzz. God also handed me a group of lady friends that I'll have forever.  They make me want to be better woman, and I love each of them.

Little did I know he also introduced me to my husband. That cute guy I kept having capstone projects with, that rocked a pair of baseball pants, and was so easy to talk to...he ended up being the one.  I'll share our full story on the 3rd or 4th date.  Don't want to scare you off:)

Which leads us to a proposal on a top of Wolfcreek pass.

And then to September 18, 2010.  This was such an amazing day.

My first international trip was our honeymoon, and the first night was terrifying.  All I could think about was all those 20/20 episodes where the people are taken and never found.  I went to bed that night positive we would be leaving in the morning.  But then we woke up and it was amazing.  I might have jumped the gun a bit.  I'm a beach baby.

The last few years have been spent settling into jobs, learning to live together (which wasn't hard), buying a house, and laughing.  We spend more time laughing that anything else.  We play chase around our living room and dinning room area.  It makes a big circle, and I've yet to catch him.  I've ate it a few times due to socks and the wood floor. It's my mission to win that game.  The rest of our time is spent planning, then reminding ourselves to stop and just enjoy the now.  Which seems like an impossible balance.

He is the best. And I'm a blessed girl to get to share and build a life with him.

This little blog is a place for me to share that life, and I hope you will follow along!
