Trying Out Our Green Thumb!

I have always loved planting- I grew up with a big garden at our house and an even bigger one at the farm.  I remember coming home from the farm after tilling to prepare for planting, and having to get sprayed down outside by the mom before we could even enter the house.  That was always followed by shelling peas, shucking corn, and making jams- it was so great to have home grown veggies and I have always known that having my own garden would be a part of my grown-up future.

I won't be able to fulfill that goal until we have a little land, so for now I will settle on potting an herb garden.  We try to use fresh herbs as much as possible, but they are so very expensive!  So we decided to try out growing our own.  It was just under $15 for 4 herbs; sweet mint (for ice tea), basil, rosemary, and thyme.  We also bought two long window boxes, veggie feed and soil to complete the relocation.  So far, so good.  We are watching them as if they were little people and talking to them as if we were their 'growing coaches".  I'm putting my knowledge from "Pot Gardening for Dummies" to the test- I let you know how much it taught me!

Hydrangeas are also my favorite flower, so I could't pass up the opportunity to try my green thumb with them as well- Isn't it beautiful!

And Tanner told me that he had always wanted to have a cactus- so he picked out a red headed one-watching him try and plant it was very entertaining!

I'm crossing my fingers and praying that my dedication to these little guys will pay off and provided us with fresh herbs- But I'll let you know how it goes...
