May’s D.I.Y -- A Gift With a Personal Touch

About a month before the wedding I had lunch with a great girlfriend who gave me such a special gift.  I was up to my eyes in wedding activities and stressed beyond belief –and she was so sweet to let me vent and then to bless me with homemade journal, and other great girly gifts.  This journal was recovered with paper that depicted a man and woman fishing together, a sun shining on them and quotes about love and marriage.  On the inside she wrote,

“Love is not love which alters
When it alternations finds.
Or bends with the remover to remove.

Oh No! It is an ever fixed mark
That looks on tempests and
Is never shaken.”
-  William Shakespeare

This gift was so encouraging to me- the quotes and definitions she added about marriage reminded me what all the stress was for- a beautiful love that lasts a lifetime.  It also touched on what a kind spirit my friend had and how thoughtful she was in her blessings.   So after the dust settled from the wedding I asked her if she would mind if I started making them… She kindly shared the process and I have gifted personal journals to two friends and a sister.  It feels good to create a small personal space for someone to document anything they want.

From Kisses to Dishes will share a DIY each month- this month it’s ‘Personalizing a Journal’…

Ingredients:
-          Journal
-          Paper, Embellishments, Quotes
-          Mod Podge
-          Paint Brush (Medium)
-          Hot Glue Gun

Directions:
-          Size paper to cover
-          Use mod podge to adhere the paper to the journal (Allow at least an hour to dry)
-          Attach embellishments with glue gun
-          Add note inside

I love crafts but if there is a way for me to make a mess, I will.  So in fear that I would mod podge the carpet or placemats I removed everything and just had my ‘ingredients’ on the table.  Normally I learn through doing but I didn’t want to mess up the actual journal, so I also watched a couple of ‘You-Tube videos’ on mod podging and found it very helpful.
